Slowly the roof is takng shape, we're thirlled with the effect the i beam pulins bring to the design. Posted by Picasa

Finally the trusses arrived and were stood up! Unfortunately they were a little on the thin side and we had to spend a week plating them with hardwood. Looks great but.
Here the purlins are beginning to end up where they should be. Surprisingly light, they were'nt too hard to place. The formply underneath is shiplapped. Posted by Picasa

With the deck finished we turned to the driveway while we wait for the roof components to arrive. It requires a bit of paperwork and council and neighbour approval, once that's all sorted you can wheel in the machinery.

Ownerbuilders live for days like this.

Must admit I didn't stay for the road construction lecture, but it seems logical enough.

Our plan is to have it sealed once we decide on the route.

At the end of the day we ran the very battered Hyundai Sportswagon, now complete with plastic passenger window, up and down.

Thankfully it made it.

Building the deck

After working away with earth for a few months its been fun to try something new. We cut the joists and bearers a while ago but ended up buying the decking locally. The profile has been suggested by John Bohane and works brilliantly. It is regular 100mm by 25mm hardwood thicknessed on three sides and chamfered to 45 degrees along its profile.

I finally got to us our old durden thicknesser. It's as heavy as 10 men, we need the backhoe to move it about.
